Burt Lancaster Movie Reviews

Movies are rated from 1 to 5 stars (1 star being terrible, 5 being outstanding)."Top Pick!" indicates a movie that I think is very good and will have a lot of popular appeal.

Movie links go to Amazon.com. If the film you are interested in is out-of-print, I recommend ordering a used copy via Amazon.com. I've had very good luck obtaining hard-to-find and obscure films this way

Field of DreamsField of Dreams *****

A modern day classic. Lancaster only has a cameo role in this one, but this is a very sweet movie and worthwhile for the whole family.

Ulzana's Raid ****

Depressing, gritty and violent western. Worthwhile viewing for western fans. This film is somewhat of a cult classic among some circles, but isn't for everyone.

The Devil's DiscipleThe Devil's Disciple ****

Funny and irreverant, I really enjoyed this film. Lancaster, Lawrence Oliver and Kirk Douglas play well together in this Revolutionary war-era lighthearted comedy-drama.

The Flame and the ArrowThe Flame and the Arrow ****

Fun, silly but adventurous. Worth a look!

Trapeze - Tony Curtis, Burt LancasterTrapeze ****

Another classic Lancaster vehicle, where he once again gets to show off his acrobatic skills. Love triangle between Tony Curtis, Lancaster and beautiful Gina Lolabrigida.

The Rainmaker - Burt Lancaster, Katherine HepburnThe Rainmaker *****

Another excellent film, based on a stageplay. Lancaster is wonderful, teamed up with "old maid" Katherine Hepburn. Hilarious and bittersweet. Wonderful film.

Executive Action****

Unusual drama from the 1970s, about a supposed theory of who killed JFK. Precedes Oliver Stone and is pretty interesting.

Island of Dr. Moreau - Michael York, Burt LancasterThe Island of Dr. Moreau ***

Depressing and not as good as the Charles Laughton film based on the same book.

Moses

Highly acclaimed miniseries about the prophet Moses. Excellent score by Ennio Morricone.

The Scalphunters - Ossie Davis, Shelley Winters, Telly SavalasThe Scalphunters ****

Strange comedic little western which touches on such issues as racism. Fun to watch.
