Es fácil comprar libros ingleses de Harlequin (y Silhouette) pero no es fácil comprar libros españoles de Harlequin. También, los libros usados en inglés tienen un precio bajo. Los libros usados en español no tienen un precio bajo. El precio para los libros usados en español no es muy alto, sin embargo, no es bajo.

Consejo sobre estos libros: No aguardas comprar. El Harlequin venden estos libros para unas pocas meses. Si tú aguardas, quizás los libros son no disponibles. Esto es especialmente verdad con los libros españoles. ¡No aguardas!

When I first started looking for Spanish Harlequins, I assumed that it would be no problem. It's embarrassingly easy to find Harlequins in English, but I discovered that it is not so with Spanish Harlequins. They are harder to find, are not publicized as much, and used copies sell for higher prices.

The first tip I want to share about buying Harlequin books (English or Spanish, but especially Spanish), is to not wait to buy a title you want. DO NOT WAIT. These books go out of print very fast—often within a few months. You can never predict how long that book you have your eye on will be available, so if you want it, get it NOW. Or, you may end up having to buy a used copy (or you'll do without).

I'm finding some good online sources for Spanish Harlequins. Right now, I find that Amazon.com (which also ships internationally) has the best selection and is my favorite resource. They carry all the available Harlequins from the four lines that are sold in the USA: Deseo, Julia, Jazmin, and Bianca. You can even preorder these books months in advance. When a title goes out of print, you can usually find a few used copies for sale through Amazon.com's "Marketplace" sellers. Searching for new Spanish titles is not necessarily easy on Amazon.com, but their system is much better than any of the other online bookstores I've encountered.

You can also buy Biancas and Deseos through Harlequin's own site, eHarlequin.com. It can be a little cheaper to buy through Harlequin, however, they don't sell Julias or Jazmins. I don't know why! It's irritating!

Overstock.com is showing potential. They have a limited selection of Spanish Harlequins from all four lines, but if you know what you are looking for, they sometimes have great deals—on the price and on shipping charges. They have the recent titles but also some older books that aren't carried elsewhere. The best way to search through Overstock.com is to look up authors' names and see what Spanish titles they've got.

Another online bookstore is Booksamillion.com which also carries Spanish Harlequin Romances, including Julias and Jazmins. Their selection isn't as good as Amazon.com, but they may carry some older titles that Amazon.com reports as out-of-print.

I've also had good luck finding used Spanish Harlequins on eBay. Many people read their books and then immediately sell them in order to pay for more books! I am doing the same. (Check to see if I'm currently selling any Spanish Harlequins on eBay, and see what I'm selling right now on my Used Books page.) You can find many good deals on used Spanish Harlequins on eBay.

For used or hard-to-find books, try Abebooks. You have to go into their "Advanced Search" and know what you are looking for (or use keywords like "Harlequin Deseo") but you can dig up obscure titles through Abebooks!

Stores like Wal*Mart and K-Mart sometimes sell Spanish Harlequins (this is where many people will also find Julias and Jazmins, along with Deseos and Biancas). I believe that these books are only available regionally—I've not seen them for sale in my area stores. (I need to look further!)

Learn Spanish in the USA

It's a fantastic idea to learn Spanish! It's something that you should want to do for yourself—something that will give you a feeling of pride and accomplishment. Also, many new employment opportunities may open up for you if you can understand Spanish.

My Spanish studies are still in progress (as you can tell by the somewhat abysmal Spanish that I attempt to write on this site), but one thing that is helping me tremendously is reading. Reading fun and lightweight novels (like romance novels) is just the thing. As I read, I enjoy the story and want to know what happens, while simultaneously increasing my Spanish vocabulary and becoming more comfortable with the language! It's a win-win situation. I highly recommend reading novels as a way to accelerate the learning process.

Romance novels (such as Harlequin romances) are a great choice when you're learning Spanish, because even when you miss a plot point here or there, you still are able to catch the gist of the story. These books are not intricate mysteries or deep literature. They are fun. Enjoyable. And perfect for helping you when you're learning Spanish!
